  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and chili powder.
  3. In a separate large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter-sugar mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting.

Additional Notes:

  • You can adjust the amount of chili powder to your liking. If you prefer a milder cupcake, use less.
  • These cupcakes taste great with a cream cheese frosting, or a chocolate ganache.
  • For an extra kick of flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon or cayenne pepper to the batter.
