  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Additional Notes:

If you want a thicker frosting, add more powdered sugar. If you want a thinner frosting, add more milk. You can also add food coloring to make the frosting any color you like.

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter until smooth using an electric mixer.
  2. Add in the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and salt.
  3. Mix on low speed until the powdered sugar is moistened.
  4. Increase the speed to high and mix until smooth and fluffy (about 5 – 7 minutes).
  5. If the frosting is too thick, add more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency. If too thin, add more powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  6. Use the frosting to frost your cake, cupcakes, or cookies.
