  • 16 oz marshmallows (about 1 1/2 bags)
  • 2-5 tablespoons water
  • 2 lbs powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, microwave the marshmallows and 2 tablespoons of water on high for 30 seconds. Stir the mixture and continue to microwave in 30-second intervals until melted.
  2. Stir in the vanilla extract, if using.
  3. In a separate large bowl, add the powdered sugar and make a well in the center. Add the melted marshmallow mixture and the shortening to the well. Mix with a spoon or your hands until well combined. If the mixture is too dry, add water one tablespoon at a time until it comes together.
  4. Knead the fondant on a clean surface until it’s smooth and no longer sticky. Dust with additional powdered sugar, if necessary.
  5. Use the fondant immediately or store it in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If storing, wrap the fondant in plastic wrap and place it in a zip-top bag.
