Caramel Apples

Caramel apples are a classic fall treat that is loved by many. This recipe takes the traditional caramel apple and adds an extra twist with a coating of crushed nuts. These caramel apples are perfect for a Halloween party or just a fun autumn dessert.


  • 6 medium apples
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, or almonds)

  1. Wash and dry the apples. Insert a wooden stick into the stem end of each apple.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, cream, corn syrup, and salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture becomes a dark caramel color and reaches 240 degrees F on a candy thermometer.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Dip each apple into the caramel, turning to coat evenly, and then roll in the chopped nuts.
  6. Place the apples on a sheet of wax paper and let cool completely before serving.

  • Caramel apples can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Caramel can be tricky to work with, so make sure to pay close attention to the instructions and use a candy thermometer to ensure the right temperature.
