  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice


  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan.

  3. Press half of the dough into the bottom of the greased baking pan. Set the remaining dough aside.

  5. Spoon the blackberry mixture over the dough in the baking pan. Crumble the reserved dough over the top of the blackberry mixture.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before slicing into squares.
  8. Serve warm or at room temperature, with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.
