  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1 teaspoon anise extract
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon


  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a medium-size mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Mix in the egg, brandy, and anise extract. Gradually mix in the flour mixture until fully combined.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Roll the dough into balls about 1 1/4 inches in diameter, and then roll each ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.
  6. Place the dough balls 2 inches apart on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake the cookies for 12 to 15 minutes, until the edges are light brown. Let the cookies cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
