  • 5-6 puff pastry sheets, thawed and cut into small pieces
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup almonds, sliced
  • 1/2 cup pistachios, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Spread the puff pastry pieces on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes or until they are golden brown. Let them cool.
  3. In a pot, heat the milk, cream, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg over medium heat. Bring it to a boil then remove the pot from the heat.
  4. Add the baked puff pastry pieces, raisins, almonds, pistachios, and vanilla extract to the milk mixture. Mix well.
  5. Preheat the broiler. Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe dish and place it under the broiler until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  7. You can serve Umm Ali hot or cold. Garnish with additional nuts or whipped cream if desired.

Additional Notes:

You can use any nuts of your choice instead of almonds and pistachios. You can also add shredded coconut or chopped dried fruits to the mixture. Adjust the quantity of sugar according to your preference. If you don’t want to use heavy cream, you can replace it with more milk.
