Basic Mashed Potatoes

Nothing beats the creaminess and comfort of mashed potatoes. This classic side dish is easy to make and requires only a few ingredients. This recipe serves 4 people and has a cooking time of 30 minutes.


  • 6 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • optional: chopped fresh parsley for garnish

  1. In a large pot, cover the potatoes with water and bring to a boil. Cook for about 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
  2. Drain the water and return the potatoes to the pot.
  3. Add the milk, butter, salt, and pepper. Mash with a potato masher until smooth and creamy.
  4. Optional: Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.

Additional notes:

If you want to make the mashed potatoes ahead of time, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, add a splash of milk and reheat in the microwave or on the stove.
